A colourful picture book about kindness, resilience and friendship.

Simmie is a spider with nine legs. He’s great at weaving things but the other spiders leave him out and all he wants is to make friends. Trying to be helpful and make friends with a family at a local park doesn’t initially go well, with the family yelling at him to go away. Upset but undeterred, Simmie continues to be his helpful self, creating things that will help the family until they realise what he was doing.
This is an interesting story about not changing who you are and finding friends. Simmie is a great weaver and uses this to help others throughout the book. Despite setbacks, and the illustrations of him upset are a little bit heartbreaking, Simmie keeps going, showing resilience and staying true to his kind-hearted and generous nature. The story works especially well because Simmie is a spider, and the interesting fact sheet at the end shows why we should all be kinder to spiders.

it with my younger children.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nancy

Belle Deane, thank you for a delightful book with a charming spider, Simmie. His kindness and perseverance show that he only wants to be helpful and make a friend. His gentle ways prove genuine friendship knows no bounds.

I especially enjoyed when Simmie began helping the family. He wasn't scared off and knew they needed his help. I appreciate the information about spiders in the back of the book.

Kind Resilience

This book epitomizes acts of kindness and resilience even for thankless recipients. Despite Simmie’s differences and species, he illustrates small acts can reshape lives.

I bought this book by a new author for my nephew, aged 6, and a friend’s child, aged 4. And I know that they will absolutely love it. Simmie's illustrations are wonderful, and the story is heartfelt. A fabulous message about overcoming shyness, being kind, and finding friendship.
