Why I Write
I grew up hearing the saying “Shy bairns get nowt”(“Shy children get nothing”)—and as a shy bairn myself, I know exactly what that means! Too timid to join in, I often watched adventures from the sidelines and later wished I’d been just a little bit braver. These days, I pour that wish into my writing, creating picture books that help children find their courage, celebrate who they are, and giggle along the way.
After many joyful years as a primary teacher, I discovered that my greatest magic trick was helping children fall in love with stories. I believe every child deserves to see themselves in the pages of a good book—one that’s warm, funny, and full of heart. That’s why my stories often feature adorable animal heroes learning that even small voices can make a big difference.
When I'm not scribbling away at a new idea, I can be found reading under a cosy blanket or hunting for treasures in bookshops with my husband, Jason. I still believe that books can change lives—and that sometimes, the bravest adventure begins with turning the very first page.
